Jobs at Edinburgh Airport: Government seeks skilled apprentices to help protect UK border


The Home Office is looking for people to work in government border forces across the UK as tighter restrictions take effect.

Last week, the government’s new quarantine policy went into effect on Monday. It requires travelers arriving in the UK to self-isolate for fourteen days – or face a fine of £ 1,000.

Passengers must complete a form up to 48 hours before arrival with details of where they will self-isolate. Registration without the form is subject to a flat-rate penalty of £ 100.

As a border force officer you will earn between £ 23,330 and £ 26,831 per year. Experienced or senior border officers, usually specialized in immigration, can earn between £ 27,000 and £ 40,000 per year.

The apprenticeship will last up to 18 months, but you will already have a permanent contract and will need to be able to work nights and early in the morning, 365 days a year.

The Home Office wants people who are able to provide quality service, make effective decisions and get their jobs done at a steady pace, with roles such as handling documentation, investigating errors and the implementation of law, controls and regulations.
